Walking tour: Exploring scenic parks – Montefiore Park to Grant’s Tomb

Event Details

Join John Reddick, Harlem Historian and Columbia University Community Scholar, for a neighborhood history walking tour.

The natural terrain of the “Heights” in West Harlem and picturesque sighting of the Hudson River and the plains of Harlem made it an idea area for residential and institutional development. In the 1890s it was seen as the potential “Acropolis of Manhattan” with its hillside and waterfront parks attracting monuments like Grant’s Tomb and institutions including Columbia University and City College to the area.

Discover this history and more through an exploration of the neighborhood’s parks.
