The Uptown Arts Stroll 2011 is finally here! Thanks to the efforts of NoMAA and the uptown arts community, businesses and institutions, Northern Manhattan will be the center of everything arts-related during the month of June. Included among the many activities happening during the Stroll are art exhibitions, outdoor theater, dance, music, open studios, and more!
Kicking-off the Uptown Arts Stroll 2011 will be a Community Celebration on Thursday, June 2, at The Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz Memorial and Educational Center from 6 to 8:30pm, presented by NoMAA, El Carnaval del Boulevard, a celebration of Dominican and Latino culture produced by the Juan Pablo Duarte Foundation, The Shabazz Center, and the Washington Heights BID. The opening features live performances by local performing artists for a taste of what is to come for the rest of the Stroll and music by Annette A. Aguilar & StringBeans! NoMAA is also partnering with the JPD Foundation and the Washington Heights Business Improvement District during the 12th Annual Carnaval del Boulevard on Saturday, June 4, 11am-5pm along Juan Pablo Duarte Boulevard (Saint Nicholas Avenue between 181st and 188th Streets) featuring fun activities, performances, vendors and more!
During the Opening Reception, NoMAA and the Uptown Arts Stroll 2011 will pay tribute to actor and writer Manny Pérez, film director and writer Rashaad Ernesto Green, and artistic director of Underworld Productions Opera Gina Crusco, for their artistic achievements and contributions to the arts community in Washington Heights and Inwood.
