Uptown Arts Stroll Kick-Off Celebration

Join NoMAA and the uptown arts community for the Kick-Off Celebration on Thursday, June 3, 7-9pm at the Hispanic Society (Audubon Terrace on Broadway between 155th and 156th Streets). The opening features dance by Edgar Cortes Dance Theatre, and live tango music by Horacio Blanc & Raul Jaurena, and a special performance by Grammy and Oscar nominated musician Hector Martignon and the Foreign Affair Quartet, as well as a chance to visit the Hispanic Society’s newly reopened Sorolla Gallery exhibiting Joaquin Sorolla’s Visión de España, Dominique Gonzalez-Foerster’s installation at the Dia Foundation, and Marcia Annenberg’s exhibition at Boricua College. During the celebration, NoMAA and the Uptown Arts Stroll 2010 will pay tribute to artists/leaders Patricia Eakins, Ted Minos, and Ana-Ofelia Rodríguez, for their contributions to the arts community in Washington Heights and Inwood.

Hike the Heights VI / Giraffe Path **New End Location**

Hike the Heights encourages children and their families to explore the parks north of W. 135th Street. The hike will also include a scavenger hunt with over 100 giraffe sculptures – a reference to the resemblance of the northern tip of Manhattan to a giraffe’s neck and head – created out of paper mâché and decorated by close to 1000 local school children and teens. Presented by CLIMB (City Life is Moving Bodies), CAW (Creative Arts Workshops for Kids) and other community partners. **The hike ends with a community celebration at Sunken Playground (167th St. and Edgecombe Ave.)**
